Parliament's budget session ends, 23 bills passed in 29 meetings




The budget session was finally completed between the seasons and the proceedings. Terming the budget session as very friendly, productive and suited for the credentials of MPs, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced today that it will postpone it indefinitely. He said that with the passage of the general budget during the session, 23 bills, including the GST related bill, were passed and in 29 meetings, the proceedings went on for 177 hours.

Sumitra Mahajan said that this session was very successful and during the session, there were a total of 29 meetings which lasted for 176 hours and 39 minutes. Out of this 7 meetings were held in the first division and 22 meetings were held in the second part. During this session 24 government bills were restored and in total, 23 bills were passed.

Presidential address began with budget session

The first part of the budget session started with the address by the President on January 31, 2017 in the central chamber, addressing the members of both the meetings. Central budget of 2017-18 as a historic step. In February 2017 both the general and rail budgets were combined together.
Thanksgiving was on the intensive discussion
Sumitra Mahajan said that thanks to the President's address, a discussion was held for 10 hours and 38 minutes and passed on March 7. The discussion on the central budget of 2017-18 lasted 9 hours and 58 minutes on February 8 and 9. The session was organized on 9th February 2017 so that the demands of grants from different Ministries and Departments could be considered. In the second part, it was approved after discussion for more than 28 hours on the demands of grants for rail, Kishi and Kisan welfare, defense and home ministries in the second part.

8 hours 12 minutes worthless

During the session, the demands of railways and related appropriation bill (rail) and additional grants for the year 2013-14 were passed for the unavoidable demands (rail) of grant for 2016-17 and the year 2013-14. The President said that due to interruptions in this session 8 hours 12 minutes was wasted and the meeting sat for 28 hours and 40 minutes and undertook urgent government work.
